Our Brainees were delighted to be invited to Homes England’s staff conference in September 2020 to their ‘future of urbanism’ session. Thank you to Homes England for bringing together a panel which gave our Brainees food for thought.
The panel was passionate that cities would survive past Covid-19. People have always loved cities because we are social animals. We just have to make sure the mix of amenities attracts a mix of the community. And we shouldn’t think of high-density as a negative. It helps to bring a buzz. The panel did think that cities and businesses would diversity into satellite offices and regional town hubs and this would be positive.
The panel discussed ways to attract people to a place including abolishing business rates. and it was important for Brainees to hear ideas being aired. We want them to believe they can shape the future of our cities.
