Mohammed Bin Murad
Sheffield Brainery 2019 when he was a student at Silverdale school, age 16 yr 11
WHAT MADE YOU APPLY FOR REGENERATION BRAINERY? :
I have been interested in property from a young age, I would watch TV shows that showed home makeovers and also watch things on Youtube. The Brainery was the first and biggest step that I had taken into the property. Before that it had all been in my head and I was just at school, so it was just English and Maths, I was just doing my own thing, the Brainery has lead to so many things.
HOW DO YOU THINK THE BRAINERY HELPED YOU?:
It gave me confidence and an understanding of all the jobs available. I feel like it’s hard to talk to careers teachers about what I want to do because they don’t understand that much about the industry. You want them to advise you but you have to know what to ask which makes it hard. Making that first step onto the Brainery really helped, it really opened up connections and opportunities for me
WHAT DID IT LEAD TO?:
I was part of the Summer sessions where we interviewed some top people in the industry. Doing the interviews really helps my confidence, communicating with people in the industry. A 17-year-old boy or girl wouldn’t generally just go up to somebody so high level and ask them those sort of questions. Putting us with those people gave us real answers, it was a brilliant opportunity that no-one else could have given us.
I also heard about the virtual summer school through Regeneration Brainery. I applied and got a place. It felt like it was actual work, I learned a lot on the Brainery and the work experience gave me an even deeper insight and expanded things for me.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?:
I’m at Sheffield City College in Year12. It’s a 2-year course in Construction and Civil Engineering extended diploma. I’m really enjoying it. At the beginning of lockdown I didn’t have a computer so was using my phone but that’s sorted now. I have managed to keep up my work and I’m happy with the course that I am on. I really want to do an apprenticeship but most of the level 3 apprenticeships I have found are mostly for trades.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE FUTURE?
My dream for the future is to finish my course, or if I can find an Apprenticeship first, I would love that too as that is really what I’d prefer to do I would really like to have my own company, like property development.
